Restored and extended Victorian villa features Schüco
A historic property in Leeds has been fully restored and extended to provide a stunning family home, featuring opulent windows and sliding doors from Schüco.

The design approach was to restore the key elements of the building while introducing contemporary elements that would reflect the context and proportions of a Victorian villa.
Gagarin Studio was commissioned to provide the architectural design along with the interior design and landscape treatments. The fabricator commissioned to bring Gagarin’s designs to life with Schüco products was Gresson.

Schüco ASE 60 windows and sliding doors were installed in the kitchen/day room, as well as in the new zinc-clad extension that connects the kitchen garden, sun terrace and play spaces. This well-proportioned addition mirrors the adjacent gabled roofs and dark gritstone of the original building.
The ASE 60 lift-and-slide system boasts excellent thermal insulation values and slim face widths. Both modular and scalable, the product offers a comprehensive solution for design and comfort.
Optional fittings components such as the Schüco SmartStop and Schüco SmartClose security and comfort technology ensure maximum ease of use. A slimline interlock section allows inside and outside to merge together, while the level threshold meets the daily need for ease of access.
The profile system retains its high-quality design even when open, thanks to the concealed fittings components, while certified burglar resistance ensures increased security requirements are met.

“The size of the sliding doors meant that they were going to be heavy – there was no getting around it. However, the way they are engineered ensures that they will be manageable for the client, providing good functionality as well as the desired look.”
An element that adds particular interest to this home is the corner glazing, inviting swathes of light into the neutral interior. Gayle comments: “Not only was Schüco able to provide us with reliable, top quality products, but ones that would also fit the requirement for corner-glazing.

The complete renovation included the reorientation of the house around a new cobbled courtyard, green-roofed loggia and entrance with high-level, glazed lanterns that bring even more light and drama into the interior. The stairwell was remodelled with double-height spaces to provide an elegant route through the heart of the house, with long views and visual connections, including from a beautiful bedroom suite with a discreet bathroom terrace.
