Energy-efficient renovation of tram depot

The tram depot in the Oerlikon district of Zürich dates back to the 1930s. The outdated complex had long since failed to meet regulatory and operational requirements. And so the depot, which is under a historical preservation order, has been made energy-efficient and optimised for operation. The architects at Ernst & Humbel chose steel Janisol HI forward-mounted windows and Janisol HI windows for the insulation. The windows combine slimline frame profiles with innovative technology for the highest thermal break. With their triple insulating glass, they achieve outstanding thermal insulation values.

Outdoor cleaning system under cover

To be able to clean all of the trams in the future, regardless of the weather outside, the outdoor washing facility was enclosed as part of the refurbishment. This is where the Schüco AWS 65 aluminium window system can be used. The system is Cradle to Cradle-certified and has other benefits such as good thermal insulation, narrow face widths and concealed fittings.

As part of the Schüco AWS system platform, the thermally insulated window system offers an extensive range of solutions for the 65 mm basic depth to meet a variety of building envelope requirements.

Based on the tried-and-tested VISS modular system, VISS Basic offers economical and stylish system solutions for steel façade constructions that can be mounted on any support. There is a free choice of shape and material for the load-bearing structure.

Individual architectural accents can be created through the outer covering of the load-bearing structure by means of aluminium cover cap profiles in a range of basic depths and contours.

Optimised insulation and structure combined with slimline window appearance

The perfect combination of design and material with high standards of thermal insulation and burglar resistance: Thanks to its new developed composite system, the pioneering high-end Janisol HI window system offers the best structural properties combined with outstanding U values.
