Project details

Depot Boijmans van Beuningen is a building that holds up a mirror to its surroundings, which gives it an inconspicuous presence. For the installation of a total of 1664 double-curved – and in some places triple-curved – mirror panels, MVRDV Architects opted for the Jansen VISS SG system solution with RC 4 burglar resistance. The automatic sliding doors on the ground floor are also a special solution that is based on a Jansen steel profile system. As these doors are also mirrored, the visitors~ reflection parts in two as they approach. The almost 40-metre-high atrium is accessed via a relatively small entrance. Criss-crossing staircases lead visitors from the foyer past numerous storage areas, exhibition rooms and »glazed« workshops to the sculpture garden above the sixth floor. Glass partition walls on every level leave no doubt about the purpose of the building: the archiving and restoration of valuable works of art.

Versatile fire protection system for doors and fixed glazing

The Janisol C4 EI90 (T90/F90) door and fixed glazing system with a basic depth of 70 mm combines the high security features of a steel fire protection system with a sophisticated, elegant design. In this way the pioneering fire doors meet all the security and aesthetic requirements of modern building planning.

Standardised cable channels provided in the profile ensure easy and quick installation.

Structural glazing façades with a wide range of design options

Transparent building envelopes with a harmonious, attractive all-glass look covering a large area can be created – an architectural statement that can be fulfilled masterfully with the VISS SG (Structural Glazing) steel façade system.

The narrowest of silicone joints allows a building envelope to be constructed in a structural glazing look, with a glass area that appears almost completely homogenous, conveying lightness and openness.

Variable glass anchors enable double and triple glazing to be installed and provide additional design options.

Non-insulated steel profile system for large-format flush-fitted door constructions in indoor areas

Specially design for large-format, flush-fitted single and double-leaf door constructions as well as fixed glazing in indoor areas – 60 mm basic depth. The continuous shadow gaps on the inside and outside grant the flush-fitted door constructions an elegant appearance.

The system compatibility of the non-insulated system guarantees visually uniform solutions in combination with thermally insulated Janisol doors as well as Janisol smoke and fire doors.
