Object description
The Centro de Creación de las Artes in the Spanish town of Alcorcón near Madrid, completed in the middle of 2011, offers room for artistic and creative activities in nine building sections encompassing 60,000 m2. The project of the Spanish architects Pedro Bustamante and Javier Camacho includes a large auditorium with 1,500 seats, a round circus building, a multifunctional space, and a congress center. The complex has a distinct appearance due to the fact that a translucent circular building rises up from a flat building. In this steel-and-glass cylinder, which has a diameter of 30 m, stands running all the way around provide seating for some 500 people. The project is part of the urban development plan for Alcorcón from 2000 to 2010 and was the result of an architecture competition. In 2009, the CREAA was shown in the exhibition Jóvenes Arquitectos Españoles (Young Spanish Architects) as one of the best Spanish projects.
