An ark for living and working

An ark for living and working

The new headquarters of the CAP Group in Milan resembles a floating ark. The key feature of this is a large overhang, which lends the monolithic building a certain lightness while also highlighting its entrance area. With this newbuild that is situated at the edge of “La Spezia” park, the clients have completely reinterpreted the surrounding area and achieved their aim of relocating all the offices of the Group here.

The company maintains the aqueducts and drainage channels for Milan and the many communities of the surrounding Lombardy region. In addition to state-of-the-art principles of sustainability in terms of energy, ecology and economy, the element of water and its interconnections were the guiding criteria throughout all of the construction phases. After precisely mapping out all of the features of the project, it became clear that the building fulfilled all of the requirements to achieve LEED Gold certification.

The CAP Group portrays its corporate activities in a reserved and rather subtle way through the building envelope. With its transparent units arranged in a very geometric pattern, the façade was designed as an homage to artist Piet Mondrian. The mullion/transom construction is based on the Schüco SFC 85 façade system.

The ground floor of the newbuild houses public functions such as the exhibition space, the bistro, the day-care centre, and the conference rooms, while the upper floors accommodate the company's offices. As part of a site with residential buildings, the aim is for this building to add value to the surrounding neighbourhoods in future, offering a space that is open to all, with an auditorium and other services currently being planned.
