Object description

Making a statement: day and night

A crystal blue cube provides a new architectural highlight at the intersection of the A650 and A61 motorways west of Ludwigshafen right around the clock. This is made possible by Schüco façade and window technology with 280 LightSkin units, implemented by Schüco partner Rossmanith.

Frigo-Trans GmbH from Frankenthal in Rheinland-Pfalz transports goods for pharmaceutical companies throughout Europe. With the cube-shaped administration wing in front of the new distribution centre, the company is now making its range of services plain to see from far and wide. The cube in crystal blue symbolises the continuous cold chain from the pharmaceutical manufacturer to the distribution centre and on to customers such as pharmacies and hospitals. Thanks to the high proportion of glass in the façade and the lighting, the symbolic power even works day and night. During the day, reflections from the solar shading glass produce beautiful effects, while 280 LED lighting units – implemented using Schüco LightSkin – put the cube into perspective at night.

The total investment in the project – administration cube plus distribution centre and outside areas – amounted to around €17 million. Overall control of the project and its realisation rested with Frigo-Construction. The engineering firm Brunnenkant from Wiesloch near Heidelberg planned and carried out the construction work. Besides Schüco LightSkin units, the Schüco systems ADS 75.SI and HD.HI, ADS 65, AWS 75.SI, FW 50+.SI as well as ADS 80 FR 30 and Firestop T90/F90 were also used. These were implemented by the long-standing Schüco partner Rossmanith fenster + fassade from Heidelberg. The company specialises in high-quality industrial and administration buildings. The Rossmanith team integrated 280 units of the LightSkin system into the transoms and installed façade units to cover an area of around 1100 m2. In order to ensure that the LED units were perfectly wired, the Schüco partner coordinated the work closely with the responsible electrical contractor. But it was definitely worth the effort. Frigo-Trans has been presenting itself in a brilliant blue since December 2014. Around the clock – by day and night.
