Project details

In the mining town of Gällivare in Swedish Lapland, the Kunskapshuset (House of Knowledge) is an important addition to a complex that is sustainable in economic, ecological and social terms, as well as functional and architecturally attractive. The six-storey, terraced newbuild, which fuses components of traditional Swedish architecture to create an expressive ensemble, is home to 850 sixth form students and an adult education centre. The red façade of the building is inspired by the colours of the surrounding nature. The huge, external façade mullions made of glued laminated timber are the most striking feature on the exterior. Arranged in pairs and with a sawtooth-like profile, they break up the views of the building vertically and horizontally. In the conference rooms on the top floor, the canteen on the ground floor and the impressive, five-storey entrance hall, elements of the exterior are repeated inside the building. Versatile fire protection system for doors and fixed glazing

The Janisol C4 EI90 (T90/F90) door and fixed glazing system with a basic depth of 70 mm combines the high security features of a steel fire protection system with a sophisticated, elegant design. In this way the pioneering fire doors meet all the security and aesthetic requirements of modern building planning.

Standardised cable channels provided in the profile ensure easy and quick installation.

Thermally insulated steel profile system for multi-functional door constructions

The steel profile system enables a wide variety of constructions for aesthetically and structurally demanding multi-functional single and double-leaf steel doors in outdoor areas – perfect for use in heavily frequented public buildings.

The compatibility of Janisol door systems guarantees visually uniform solutions even when there are a number of different security requirements: Non-insulated Jansen Economy door for indoor use and smoke protection as well as Janisol 2, Janisol C4 and highly thermally insulated Janisol HI systems can all be combined.

All-round fire protection system with multiple applications

As an all-round fire protection system for door and fixed glazing constructions, Janisol 2 EI30 (T30/F30) combines the highest in building safety standards with optimal design freedom.

The narrow and highly stable steep profiles of the system enable solutions for special applications which meet all the requirements of demanding architecture, such as stainless steel, butt joint glazing, anti-finger-trap doors and clad doors with transparent toplights and sidelights.

Improved thermal insulation, security and fabrication

The optimised Schüco AWS 75.SI+ (Super Insulation) standard window system for the 75 mm basic depth is part of the Schüco AWS system platform and forms the basis for a range of applications in energy-efficient building envelopes. Depending on the architectural requirements, the highly thermally insulated aluminium system can be used as a punched opening, ribbon window, façade insert unit or in combination with Schüco door systems.

An additional benefit for architects and specifiers is the wide range of opening types such as tilt/slide vents, bottom-hung toplights or horizontal and vertical pivot vents.

Non-insulated steel profile system for large-format flush-fitted door constructions in indoor areas

Specially design for large-format, flush-fitted single and double-leaf door constructions as well as fixed glazing in indoor areas – 60 mm basic depth. The continuous shadow gaps on the inside and outside grant the flush-fitted door constructions an elegant appearance.

The system compatibility of the non-insulated system guarantees visually uniform solutions in combination with thermally insulated Janisol doors as well as Janisol smoke and fire doors.
