The crystalline architecture of the Darmstadtium in the city centre, right next to the castle and the technical university, is refreshingly unique. From the outside, the new science and conference centre is divided into distinct areas of the castle-city wing, small hall and entrance foyer. This glass-roofed heart of the building stretches to the underground car park and has views out at every level due to its transparent construction. A city wall with a defence tower found during construction was integrated retrospectively into the foyer and provides an attractive contrast of historical and modern
architecture.
