Project description

In a breathtaking location on a plateau at 1600 metres above sea level, Mario Botta built his »stone flower«. The mountaintop restaurant with an octagonal floor plan is impressive not just because of its location but also because of the unusual shape of the building envelope, which has open and closed segments that are reminiscent of blooming flower petals. The large vertical glazing was a particular challenge. Not only did it have to withstand extreme wind and snow loads in this exposed location, for logistical reasons it was also bound to the dimensions of the rack railway. The load-bearing structure made of heavy-duty steel profiles is a solution specific to this project and was designed to be very slimline and highly thermally insulated. A comprehensive fire protection concept rounds off the technical requirements of the project.

All-round fire protection system with multiple applications

As an all-round fire protection system for door and fixed glazing constructions, Janisol 2 EI30 (T30/F30) combines the highest in building safety standards with optimal design freedom.

The narrow and highly stable steep profiles of the system enable solutions for special applications which meet all the requirements of demanding architecture, such as stainless steel, butt joint glazing, anti-finger-trap doors and clad doors with transparent toplights and sidelights.

The Schüco ADS 75 HD.HI (Heavy Duty High Insulated) aluminium door system combines high durability with multiple functions and attractive design options – perfect for challenging commercial buildings with high security requirements.

The extremely stable Heavy Duty system is designed specifically for heavy or oversized door leafs with large opening widths and high continuous loads.

Flexible fire-resistant façade – maximum security with an attractive design

VISS Fire is the steel profile system for all standard fire-resistance classes, which also allows attractive façades to be created flexibly without compromising on security or design.

The fire protection system can be freely combined with standard VISS façades – with a consistent, uniform look thanks to identical façade elevations.

Slimline face widths with large areas of glass provide maximum light penetration and the highest level of transparency.

The system is designed for vertical façades in all tested fire resistance classes for internal and external use (E30/60/90, EI30/60/90), and approved in combination with Janisol 2 fire doors for internal use.
