Object description
Object description
This impressive structure, in the trademark style of the Austrian planning office CoopHimmelb(l)au, was the winning design in a 2001 competition. The heart of the building is a three-storey glass “crystal” that serves as a foyer and a meeting point for visitors. A “floating roof” hovers above it, a sharply cantilevered, translucent steel frame that encloses the interior space and shades various outside areas. This cloud-like roof also covers the third and only enclosed cubic building section, the “gallery box”. Together these three elements form a fascinating ensemble of sculptures.
