Project details

Directly adjacent to the »Center of Brain, Behavior and Metabolism« (CBBM), which is already complete, the new BMF Biomedical Research building has created biomedical, chemical and experimental laboratories for scientists to carry out interdisciplinary research work. At the heart of the building, central areas in two atriums that are flooded with light have been designated as »Communication Hubs« with a pleasant atmosphere – these meeting points encourage the scientists to exchange ideas with one another and spend some of their time there. The various sightlines between the areas help to foster a sense of identity and make research a tangible experience for people, even when in the centre of the building. The design of the BMF façade adopts the characteristic style of the long sides of the CBBM and continues this to the corners of the building on the north side. The floor-to-ceiling glazed north façade overlooking the campus park creates a visual link between the research environment inside and the park area outside, and also acts as a showcase for science.
