The new Volkstheater in Munich is an urban focal point on the site of Munich’s former slaughterhouse and stockyard, which is currently being developed to create a new district. As well as integrating an existing building, a prestigious newbuild was planned to continue the history of the site. As bricks dominated the appearance of the existing buildings, these were also the obvious choice of material for the newbuild. A courtyard with a large arch opening out towards the street is positioned between the old building, a narrow block on the northern side of the plot and the new foyer. The archway joins together the old and new buildings, providing clear access to the inner courtyard. The flowing building structure is a result of the functional requirements and, in addition to audience areas and three stages, it also houses rooms for modern stage technology, workshops and accommodation for the artists, as well as restaurants and offices.

Throughout the thermal envelope, the building services are surrounded by a concertina-like grille construction made from thin metal bars, while the 29-metre tall stage tower has a semi-transparent membrane façade. Inside, a colourful foyer welcomes the visitors, who will proceed through to either the large auditorium for 600 people or the second stage for 200 people. The furnishings and fixtures made from in-situ concrete play on the space and, together with the coloured surfaces and the building geometry, form a sculptural whole.

The Schüco ADS 65.NI SP non-insulated smoke protection door system for single and double-leaf doors, including the system fittings, has been fully tested in accordance with DIN 18085 and EN 1634-3.

The proven aluminium series with smoke protection properties is based on stable hollow-chamber profiles with a basic depth of 65 mm and can be optionally upgraded to a multi-functional door for additional building security and automation requirements.

High-performance mullion/transom façade with 60 mm face width – the basis for a variety of solutions

The Schüco FWS 60 façade system is an impressive basic system for façades and skylight areas with a high level of flexibility and attractive design options, including optimised fabrication and installation processes. Thanks to a broad system range, solutions for the most varied requirements and applications can be implemented.

A transparent system solution integrated in the profile for spandrel safety barriers blends seamlessly and elegantly into the external façade appearance.

The optimised Schüco AWS 75.SI+ (Super Insulation) standard window system for the 75 mm basic depth is part of the Schüco AWS system platform and forms the basis for a range of applications in energy-efficient building envelopes. Depending on the architectural requirements, the highly thermally insulated aluminium system can be used as a punched opening, ribbon window, façade insert unit or in combination with Schüco door systems.

The perfect solution for flush-fitted single and double-leaf door constructions as well as fixed glazing in indoor areas – 50 mm basic depth. The continuous shadow gaps on the inside and outside grant the slimline door constructions an elegant appearance.

The system compatibility of the non-insulated system guarantees visually uniform solutions in combination with thermally insulated Janisol doors as well as Janisol smoke and fire doors. This allows uniform face widths for different planning requirements.
