Prestigious urban district
Prestigious urban district
Directly opposite the former German Chancellery in Bonn, the “Neuer Kanzlerplatz” office district, designed by JSWD, combines the history of the Bonn Republic and the future of the former government quarter in a unique way. At the former location of the Bonn-Center, which was demolished in 2017, an ensemble of three seven storey-high pentagonal buildings has been constructed on an area of 66,000 m².
Measuring 100 metres and 28 storeys high, a striking skyscraper rises up out of one of the three base buildings and is visible for miles around. This makes the district home to the third-tallest building in Bonn and offers spectacular views of the city and the Siebengebirge mountain range through its all-round glazing.
The façade, made from white, acid-washed and double hydrophobic concrete, is the common thread that ties all three buildings together to form a unified whole. The geometries of the façade structure create an ever-changing appearance depending on the viewing angle. The façade was made using a special construction based on the Schüco AWS 75.SI unitised façade, which offers enhanced thermal insulation, security and fabrication.
