Award-winning office building with closed-cavity façade

Award-winning office building with closed-cavity façade

When expanding their office on the edge of Landshut's old town, the architects decided on a gentle transformation. The guiding principle was to reduce the range of materials used for the building and scale back its shape. The urban planning and topographical position at the foot of the hill in which Trausnitz castle sits presented a challenge. Characterised by Gothic townhouses, the majority of Landshut's old town is a protected heritage site. The monolithic structure, made of corten steel, allows for a variety of perspectives for living and working. The orientation of the floors follows the contours of the hill. Whilst the work and living areas have an open floor plan running the length of the glass façade, the private sleeping areas as well as the kitchen and bathroom face the hill. There is thus an interplay between closed and open spaces, while on the various terraces the large-scale windows create a fluid transition from inside to outside and allow for changing floor plans.
