Object description

Built in the 1970s, the Robert-Bosch-Hospital complex in Stuttgart has been extended in several construction phases and reconstruction work. In addition to several new buildings, the entire complex was refurbished between 2000 and 2007 while still operating as normal. The 521-bed hospital underwent modernisation on 38 construction sites during this process. In addition to processes and spatial facilities being optimised, the building has been modernised in terms of energy efficiency with the addition of new façades. The previous washed concrete façades have been replaced with a new building envelope consisting of a filigree construction made of metal, timber and glass. Inside, all of the surfaces, such as the walls, ceilings, floors and cladding have also been updated using bright, friendly materials. The building is accessed via a transparent, clear entrance area, to which three visually striking glass pavilions are connected. These house a café, a patient admissions centre and an events room. The foyer is connected to a glass stairwell with two panorama lifts, which open up the four ward wings and lead to the roof terrace.
