Object description

Object description

U15 Assago, the building designed by Cino Zucchi architects, seamlessly recalls the rolling contours of the landscape whilst contrasting with the stark angularity of the surrounding buildings. The complex resembles an amoeba, without right angles, sharp edges or the customary harsh geometry of the Milan skyline. All the angles are concave or convex, with their orientation based on optimum use of sunlight. The façade is divided into three different zones vertically, making the structure both striking and vivid. The interior is distinguished by a sweeping ribbon of windows and doors. A solid façade strip is positioned at the same level in the spandrel area. A system of fixed solar shading panels, which are perforated and coloured in chromatic bronze, brown, beige, ivory and gold, sits in front of the façade strips, which are identical in height. It is the uninterrupted sweeping strip façade and its outwardly scale-like appearance that make this sculptural architecture utterly unique.
